FALSE COVER
by Vanessa Calvert
12/03/11 - 01/07/12
False Cover explores the ways in which the design and constituent elements of our everyday environments simultaneously reflect our lives and shape our behavior. Calvert abstracts the structure of common domestic objects to explore how their forms can reveal some truth about identity and society. Upholstery and furniture are animated and transformed into unexpected entities. Rigid surfaces seem to slide and melt pointing to the fluidity of the boundaries between our interior and exterior spaces.
Vanessa Calvert is a mixed-media sculptor and installation artist living and working in Portland, OR.
