LIKEWISE, I'M SURE
Mandee Schroer & Amber Moss-Jensen

07/10/10 - 08/08/10

"Likewise, I’m Sure” is an installation by Mandee Schroer and Amber Moss-Jensen that demonstrates the symbiotic relationship between painting and sculpture by using a spontaneous and synergetic process. In this collaboration, they base their artistic maneuvers on the other's actions without predetermined baselines or verbalizations. Their process and the resulting work are informed by spontaneity, chance, failure, and surprise. Their “raw materials” include approximately one hundred feet of painting and drawing on paper, vellum, wood, and image projections. Ultimately, by the improvisational regrouping of the “raw materials”, their ideas, and the space itself, become interconnected. The endlessness of painting's forgiving palette with the physicality of sculpture to create a fluid moment where their self-indulged formalistic ideals prevail.

Amber Moss-Jensen has shown at Igloo Gallery, Gallery Homeland, Worksound, and was a participant in this year’s Holocene Mini-Golf Art Invitational. She earned an MFA at Portland State University in 2008. Mandee Schroer's recent works include The Last Book by Luis Camnitzer shown in Zurich, Switzerland and Buenos Aries, Argentina, Gallery Homeland, Igloo Gallery, Alexander Gallery, The Portland Art Center and Blackfish Gallery. Schroer also has published work in Volume Magazine and Portland Modern n.5. Schroer received a BFA from the University of New Mexico in 2000, and an MFA from Portland State University in 2007. Both Mandee Schroer and Amber Moss-Jensen currently live and work in Portland, Oregon.
